Project overview
Water was coming into this Bettendorf basement through a crack in the foundation wall. Behncke Construction repaired it from the outside, where the water was getting in.
On the job
The crew dug down along the exterior of the foundation at the corner of the house, exposed the crack, and sealed it from the outside. Protective sheeting went against the wall before backfill, and the rock landscaping at the corner was put back when the dig was closed up.
Exterior sealing is Behncke’s preferred repair for a leaking crack whenever it is practical, because it stops groundwater before it reaches the wall instead of managing water after it is already inside. A localized repair like this one also avoids installing an interior drainage system the house does not need. Since 1948, Behncke Construction has performed thousands of foundation crack repairs throughout the Quad Cities, and exterior excavation and sealing remains one of its most effective and proven methods.
