The problem

This foundation just north of Eldridge had deteriorated mortar joints and walls that needed both structural reinforcement and masonry restoration. Left alone, failing joints and unsupported walls only get worse — so the home needed a fix that addressed the masonry and the structure together.

How we diagnosed it

On site, our crew traced the issue to the condition of the wall itself: loose, crumbling material and mortar joints that had given out, leaving the wall without the continuous support it needs. That told us re-tuckpointing alone wasn’t enough — the wall also needed mechanical reinforcement to carry the load going forward.

Our solution

We worked the wall from the ground up: first scraping away all loose material, then routing out the failing mortar joints and professionally re-tuckpointing the entire foundation wall. With the masonry restored, we installed eight heavy-duty steel I-beam wall braces to reinforce the wall and distribute its load.

Products & methods used

  • 8× steel I-beam wall braces
  • Full-wall re-tuckpointing
  • Masonry restoration
  • Mortar-joint routing & repair

What makes our approach different

One thing that sets Behncke apart: we tuckpoint behind every steel I-beam before final installation. That creates continuous contact between the brace and the wall from top to bottom, so the load is distributed evenly across the whole wall instead of just a few contact points. It takes more time — but in all our years of installing steel I-beam braces, we’ve never had one fail. Since 1948, we’ve believed quality workmanship is always worth the extra effort.
