Project overview

This Moline home needed several things done at once. Water was getting into the basement through a foundation crack, the parging on the foundation was breaking down, part of the foundation wall was damaged, and the sidewalk along the house had failed.

On the job

The crew excavated along the outside of the foundation to reach the leaking crack and repaired it from the exterior, dealing with the water where it was coming in rather than covering the problem up on the inside. Protective sheeting went against the wall before the excavation was backfilled.

On the same visit the crew repaired the deteriorated parging, corrected the damaged section of foundation wall, tore out the damaged sidewalk sections, set forms and a gravel base, and poured a new concrete sidewalk along the side of the house. The yard was put back with seed and straw.

Behncke Construction has served the Quad Cities since 1948, and this is the kind of job that experience pays off on: fixing the cause of the water problem first, then putting the surrounding concrete and masonry back right.

From the field

Why they called. A leaking foundation crack was letting water into the basement; the foundation parging was deteriorating, a section of foundation wall was damaged, and the sidewalk was damaged.

Why this repair. The crack was repaired from the exterior to stop the water at its source rather than covering the problem from inside.

What we did. Excavated along the exterior foundation and repaired the leaking crack; repaired deteriorating parging and a damaged section of foundation wall; removed damaged sidewalk sections and poured a new concrete sidewalk.

Result. Crack, parging and wall section repaired; new concrete sidewalk installed and yard restored with seed and straw.
