Behncke Construction added a new egress window to a basement in Bettendorf. The house sits on a poured concrete foundation, so the job was as much foundation work as window work.
On the job
The crew excavated alongside the wall next to the existing small basement window, opening a deep, square-sided pit against the poured foundation to make room for the egress well.
The finished installation has a corrugated steel window well with a ladder, a gravel floor at the bottom of the well, and a clear cover that lets light in while keeping the well covered. From inside, the new window opens straight into the well.
