Project overview

This LeClaire basement already had a waterproofing system that another company installed. It is not the way Behncke would have built it, but replacing the whole system was not necessary. A targeted repair saved the homeowner thousands of dollars.

On the job

The crew opened a six-foot section of floor along the east foundation wall, installed a wall drain to collect seepage, and checked the existing PVC drainage line. The concrete floor was then restored, with the repair area carefully filled to eliminate holes and voids.

Water that comes in at this part of the wall now reaches the existing drainage system instead of spreading across the basement floor. Behncke also recommended sealing the exterior seam where the patio meets the foundation, to cut down on water getting in at its source.

Every basement deserves a practical evaluation. Serving the Quad Cities since 1948, Behncke Construction would rather fix what is there when that is the sensible answer than sell a full replacement.

From the field

Why they called. Seepage at the east foundation wall was spreading across the basement floor instead of reaching the existing drainage system installed by another company.

Why this repair. A targeted repair to the existing system instead of a full replacement, saving the homeowner thousands of dollars.

What we did. Opened a six-foot section of floor along the east foundation wall, installed a wall drain, checked the existing PVC drainage line, and restored the concrete floor, filling the repair area to eliminate holes and voids.

Result. Water entering at this section of wall now reaches the existing drainage system. Recommended sealing the exterior seam where the patio meets the foundation.
