Project overview

This Davenport basement had several problems at once: the main girder beam needed better support, water was getting in, the concrete floor had heaved, and several basement windows were letting water through. Behncke Construction handled all of it as one job.

This home sits on an older stone foundation. For more on how we repair and waterproof stone, see our stone foundation repair page.

On the job

Under the main girder beam, the crew replaced two existing support posts with new 6×6 treated posts set on properly built concrete footings.

About 117 square feet of heaved concrete floor was broken out and removed, the subgrade was prepared, and new concrete was poured. A new sump pump system went in with a discharge line run outside and away from the house to help manage groundwater.

Three problem basement window openings were permanently closed with concrete block, then backfilled and regraded outside. Two more windows were rebuilt with glass block, which cuts down on water getting in while still letting daylight into the basement.

Serving the Quad Cities since 1948, Behncke Construction has spent nearly 80 years on difficult foundation, waterproofing and structural repairs. Handling all of these repairs under one roof meant the homeowner did not have to coordinate several different contractors.
