We offer the drain tile camera inspection as an optional premium add-on to the Annual Basement & Foundation Checkup. It is not part of the standard checkup, and most homes don’t need it every year — we’ll recommend it only when there’s a real reason to look inside the system.
What the camera inspection covers
Using an existing access point — typically the sump pit or a cleanout — our technician runs a professional inspection camera into the accessible sections of your interior drain tile and documents what the lens sees. A basement drain tile inspection like this can identify:
- Standing water inside the pipe
- Sediment buildup
- Debris in the line
- Root intrusion, where applicable
- Pipe offsets or damage
- Obstructions
- Flow observations, when conditions allow
You receive representative photos or video stills of what we found, and a written summary of the findings is added to your Behncke Foundation Record — so this year’s look inside the pipe becomes a reference point for every future one.
What a camera inspection cannot determine
We’d rather set honest expectations up front than let a camera sound like magic. A few plain limits:
- The camera cannot inspect every foot of every drain tile system. How far it can travel depends on your access points, the system’s layout, pipe size and material, and the condition of the line itself.
- If the camera reaches a blockage or collapse, it can document that point — but it cannot see past it.
- Some homes have no practical access to portions of the system, and some older systems weren’t built in a way a camera can navigate. When that’s the case, we’ll tell you what we could and couldn’t reach.
- A camera inspection documents the condition of the sections we observed on the day of the visit. It is not a warranty or a guarantee of future performance.
One more honest note: sometimes the finding is that the accessible drain tile looks clear and water is moving. That’s not a wasted inspection — it’s documented evidence your system is doing its job, and it can protect you from being sold drain tile work you don’t need.

We recommend the camera add-on when there’s a genuine reason to look inside the system — not as a default upsell. Situations where a foundation drain inspection tends to earn its cost:

How it works with the Annual Checkup
The Annual Basement & Foundation Checkup is a visual and functional inspection of accessible components — walls, cracks, sump system, windows, grading. The camera inspection adds the one thing a visual checkup can’t reach: the inside of the accessible interior drain tile. Together they give your Foundation Record both halves of the picture — what’s visible in the basement, and what’s happening inside the pipe that keeps it dry.
Camera findings are filed in your Foundation Record alongside your checkup photos and condition ratings, so a future camera inspection can be compared against this one the same way we compare crack photos year over year. If the camera does find something that needs attention, you’ll get a plain explanation and options — and if the right next step is cleaning, repair, or an interior drain tile system conversation, we’ll tell you which one and why.
